Nigerian Senate may screen ex-Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, today

Rotimi Amaechi
Barring any change in plans by the Nigerian Senate, a former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, will be screened by the upper legislative chamber today for ministerial position.

Mr. Amaechi and five other nominees are listed in today’s Order Paper for screening.
Other nominees listed are Heineken Lokpobiri, Claudius Omoleye, Isaac Folorunsho, Baba Mustapha, Ocholi James.
However, there are indications the Senate may withdraw the current Order Paper.
The Senate is currently in a closed-door session where it is expected to determine Mr. Amaechi’s fate.
A source said the readiness or otherwise of the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions would influence today’s Senate’s session.
Mr. Amaechi’s screening was deferred three times as he faces opposition from the Peoples Demorcatic Party’s caucus in the Senate, particularly the three senators from his Rivers State who submitted petitions against him.
