10 Films To Watch At The Cinema This Winter

 

Winter 2015 looks set to be a stellar season for cinema releases so we pick a few to keep you occupied as the nights draw in.

The summer box office season may have been blighted by flops like Fantastic Four and Pixels but the winter looks set to be the best for film-goers in years.

Despite the high profile bombs, this year is still on course to be one of the biggest in terms of revenue and that is before some of the most anticipated films have even been released.
Here are 10 films to keep you busy until the end of the year:
1. The Walk - 9 October
Robert Zemeckis tells the real-life story of Frenchman Philippe Petit's walk between the Twin Towers in 1974. It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Charlotte Le Bon and Ben Kingsley but vertigo sufferers, be warned, the 3D effects have left some a little nauseous.

2. Suffragette - 12 October
Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham-Carter and Meryl Streep star in this British drama about women's fight for equal rights at the beginning of the 20th century. It was the first film in history to be given permission to shoot in the Houses of Parliament.
3. Pan - 16 October
Hugh Jackman plays Blackbeard in this big-budget fantasy about the boy who never grows up directed by Joe Wright. Rooney Mara's casting as Tiger Lily angered some but the film's special effects are bound to thrill.

Stephen Frears, who directed Philomena, has made a film based on journalist David Walsh's book about the disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong. Ben Foster plays the yellow jersey cheat with Chris O'Dowd playing Walsh.
5. Spectre - 26 October
The 24th James Bond film picks up where Skyfall, the most successful 007 film ever, left off. Daniel Craig returns for a fourth time with Monica Bellucci, Christoph Waltz and Ben Whishaw. Could it be Craig's last outing as the spy?
6. Burnt - 6 November
Bradley Cooper shadowed London chefs and practised his knife skills for this film about gourmet cooking. It also stars Sienna Miller, Alicia Vikander and Emma Thompson.

7. Steve Jobs - 13 November
With a script by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle, this film about the Apple co-creator is likely to receive a warmer reception than Ashton Kutcher's 2011 film. Michael Fassbender gives a chilling performance as Jobs with Kate Winslet and Seth Rogen in support.
8. Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 - 20 November
Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen for the fourth and final time as she tries to overthrow President Snow's regime. Some have said that film fans are more excited about this release than Star Wars.
9. Carol - 27 November

Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara star in this sensual drama about the lesbian relationship between a wealthy socialite and mousy shopgirl in the 1950s. There is already Oscar buzz surrounding Blanchett's performance.
10. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens - 18 December
Little is known about the plot of JJ Abrams' film but Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill all return, along with some newcomers. Hardcore fans are likely to be more excited about this than Christmas.
